Please join us in welcoming Ryan R. Gerry, MD, MPH, FACS, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Ryan R. Gerry, MD, MPH, FACS
Associate Surgeon, Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery

Dr. Gerry received his undergraduate degree in biology at Macalester College and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. He received general surgery residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Upon completion of residency at the Brigham, Dr. Gerry spent time as a general surgeon in Anchorage, Alaska performing the breadth of general surgery, including bread and butter general surgery, colorectal surgery, endoscopy, pediatric surgery and vascular surgery. For six years, he was the trauma medical director at Platte Valley Medical Center, where he also served as the chief of Surgery. Most recently,
Dr. Gerry was the medical director of general surgery at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, a 19-bed critical access hospital in the rural central coast of California. He currently works as a general surgery consultant to MD Review and as a general surgery medical expert with COPIC malpractice insurance. He has performed over 5,000 surgeries in the past 11 years. 

His clinical interests include hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, gallbladder surgery, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery.  His academic and research interests include rural general surgery, surgical education and minimally invasive techniques in surgery.
