Dr. Nimeri received his medical degree from Al-Azhar University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He completed general surgery training at Huron Hospital in the Cleveland Clinic Health System and fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery with a focus practice designation in bariatric surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Before joining the Brigham, Dr. Nimeri worked as an associate professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina and Wake Forrest University School of Medicine. He was the program director of the MIS Bariatric Fellowship Program and section chief of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center/Atrium Health, as well as medical director at Atrium Health Weight Management and chair of the Health Disparity Subcommittee in the Department of Surgery at Atrium Health.

Dr. Nimeri serves as the secretary/treasurer for the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and is a member of the editorial board of the Obesity Surgery Journal of IFSO, as well as their associate editor. He is a reviewer of various journals, including the International Journal of Obesity and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and IFSO.

Dr. Nimeri’s clinical and research interests include mechanism of action and outcomes of bariatric surgery, health disparity in obesity care, surgical quality and surgical education.
