Please join us in welcoming John C. Wain, Jr., MD, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

John C. Wain, Jr., MD
Associate Surgeon, Division of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery

Dr. Wain received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed residency training in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a surgical research fellowship at the City of Hope National Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Before joining the Brigham, Dr. Wain was the chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Previously, he worked at Mass General Hospital, North Shore Medical Center and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He’s a member of various societies, including the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Wain’s clinical and research interests include airway reconstruction, chest wall resection and reconstruction, the surgical management of advanced stage thoracic neoplasms, epigenetic alterations in lung cancer, the inflammatory response to pulmonary injury and the physiology of respiration.
