Welcoming New Faculty – Hassan Khalil, MD

Please join us in welcoming Hassan Khalil, MD, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Hassan Khalil, MD
Associate Surgeon, Division of Thoracic Surgery

Dr. Khalil graduated from the University of Houston and obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas, Houston. He completed a general surgery residency at UCLA and two fellowships at the Brigham, one in minimally invasive thoracic and foregut surgery and another in cardiothoracic surgery.

He is board certified in general surgery, and he is a member of various organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Heart Association (AHA).

Dr. Khalil’s clinical interests include lung cancer, mesothelioma, esophageal disease and robotic surgery. His research will focus on mesothelium and application of biomaterials in thoracic surgery.

Welcoming New Faculty – Marie Billaud, PhD

Please join us in welcoming Marie Billaud, PhD, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Billaud is a graduate of the University of Bordeaux in France, where she obtained a PhD in health and life sciences, specializing in cell biology and physiology. She conducted her postgraduate research at the Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Before coming to the Brigham, Dr. Billaud was a research assistant professor in the departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

Her research focuses on vascular physiology, with a special interest in cell-to-cell communication, reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide signaling, endothelial function and smooth muscle cell excitation-contraction coupling. She applies her vast expertise in smooth muscle biology and physiology to better understand the molecular and cellular alterations that lead to ascending aortic aneurysms.

Dr. Billaud’s work has been published as original research articles, review articles and cover art in journals such as Circulation Research; Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology; Science Signaling; and the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Research.

Welcoming New Faculty – Anastasios Konstantakos, MD, FACS

Please join us in welcoming Anastasios Konstantakos, MD, FACS, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Anastasios Konstantakos, MD, FACS
Associate Surgeon, Division of Cardiac Surgery 

Dr. Konstantakos graduated from the University of Miami, where he also obtained his medical degree. He completed a general surgery residency at the Case Western Reserve University, a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a fellowship and staff position in advanced adult cardiac surgery at the Brigham.  

He is board certified in general and thoracic surgery, and he is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Before returning to the Brigham, he worked for the MercyHealth Hospital System as a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Dr. Konstantakos’ clinical and research interests include minimally invasive valve surgery, complex mitral valve repair, complex coronary revascularization, aortic surgery, reoperative cardiac surgery, cardiac oncology, surgery for cardiac arrhythmias, and patient outcomes and satisfaction.
